About Us

Since October 2000, the Center for Biofilm Engineering has been developing and publishing a valuable web resource of current biofilm-related information, www.BiofilmsOnline.com. This resource provides what could otherwise only be found by searching multiple resources. The information is carefully gathered and reviewed by people with credentials and experience in biofilm research and education. Monthly, a newsletter of the latest information (educational materials, journal references, patents, press releases, employment opportunities, etc) is delivered directly to our subscribers. And, because of our sponsors and donors, we are able to provide this information at no cost to subscribers. It has been a great step forward to achieving our mission of fostering communication about biofilm issues among industry, academic, consumer, healthcare, government and regulatory communities.

Content Strategy

Content published at BiofilmsONLINE.com has been categorized into News and Education. Each is described below in more detail.

News

News provides frequently updated content to reflect the rapidly evolving field of biofilm science and engineering. In addition to archived news features, BiofilmsONLINE.com provides the reader with timely updates in the areas of scientific research (journal citations and abstracts) and technology development (patent citations and abstracts). We also keep you abreast of past and upcoming conferences and symposia related to biofilm science and engineering, and when possible, provide you with relevant content from those programs with author and abstract information. Finally, you'll find a place for media reviews, where information about biofilm-related books, electronic media, and other publications is provided.

Education

Resources for the education community are provided through a biofilms 101 primer, laboratory exercises for science teachers, and  links to other biofilm-related educational websites.

The 3-arrow signCenter for Biofilm Engineering offers Biofilm Methods Workshops. These workshops can be tailored to meet the needs and interests of industrial or academic participants.

Short courses are offered via an online distance learning program hosted by 3-arrow signwww.Cytergy.com. These short courses are delivered via an established, innovative model that hybridizes teleconferencing and Internet technologies.
